The conceptual model of hysteresis as proposed by mualem ( 1974 ) was used as a means of testing the independente domain theory to describe measured primary scanning curves. Therr porous materials were used: Boise sandstone, yolo fine sandy loam, and aiken clay. Water content values at a given capillary pressure head were mearsured using a static equilibrium method. The applied pressure increment for reaching each along a specific characteristic curve was equally spaced. Appreciable water evaporation losses were registered and a correction was utilized to obtain actual water content values. The measured moisture characteriscs varied considerably for each porous material. The area enclosed between boundary curves being smaller for sandstone than that for the other materials was an indication that the pore geometry and radial interconnections was simpler for sandstone than that for natural soils. The comparasion between predicted and measured scanning curves was better for the sandstone than for soil. In general there was a satisfactory used is simple to apply and does not require much computation time for its application. |
